Choose how fast the assistant answers

Speed up replies or ask for deeper thinking — with the model picker, a quick word in your prompt, or Stream mode.

Some questions need a fast answer. Others deserve deeper thinking. Boldstream lets you choose — so you're never waiting longer than you need to, or rushing something complex. Here's how to control the speed and depth of the assistant's replies.

Opening the model picker in the message box and revealing the three levels — Max, Medium and Lite

Above: open the model picker in the message box, choose a level — Max, Medium or Lite — then type your question.

The quick version

Every chat starts on Max — the most capable setting, and the right call for most work. When you want a faster reply, step down a level or simply ask for one.

1. Pick a model level

In the message box you'll see a model picker with three levels — Max, Medium and Lite. Think of it as a dial for thinking power:

  • Max — the default. The most thorough; best for complex or important tasks.

  • Medium — a lighter, quicker option for everyday questions.

  • Lite — the fastest, snappiest replies. Great for quick questions, drafts and summaries.

To speed things up, just step down from Max to Medium or Lite.

2. Just ask in your message

You can steer the depth with plain language, too. Add a line like "keep it brief — quick answer" and the assistant spends less time thinking. Ask it to "think this through carefully" and it'll go deeper. No settings to change.

3. Use Stream for longer jobs

When you're running an agent or a multi-step workflow, you'll see a Stream button (the lightning bolt) in the toolbar. It isn't about speed — it lets the assistant work through several steps in a row without stopping to check in after each one, which is handy for bigger pieces of work.

💡 Tip: Leave it on Max day-to-day. Step down to Lite — or just say "quick answer" — when you want a faster reply.

What's next?

Found your rhythm? Next time a brief is complex, keep it on Max and let the assistant take its time — that's where the depth pays off.
